When, Where and Why it all started

PreVision was born out of a desire to improve communication and efficiency in live event production. In November 2023, Christian Killada was working as a content creator and virtual production specialist for John Horzen, who was designing the world premiere of The Salvagers at the Yale Repertory Theater. During the production, they noticed that automation processes took significant time to rehearse on stage, often delaying decision-making and limiting creativity.

Recognizing the need for a better solution, we envisioned a tool that would enable directors and designers to communicate effectively and visualize transitions in a dynamic, multiplayer virtual environment, however still in scale. This vision became PreVision a platform that enhances collaboration and allows teams to refine complex show sequences without the financial and physical constraints of technical rehearsals.

Realizing the potential to revolutionize live event planning, cutting costs and improving communication, the team decided to expand the concept beyond The Salvagers. We developed additional tools, starting with a projection design feature. This was successfully utilized in productions such as Escaped Alone, projection design by Shawn Boyle, and The Far Country, projection design by Hana S. Kim, both staged at Yale Repertory Theater. These experiences demonstrated how PreVision could streamline complex workflows and enhance creative collaboration in real-world scenarios.

Over the summer of 2024, we collaborated with designers to develop lighting and sound tools, refining our existing tools based on valuable feedback. Our mission has always been to create an accurate representation of what will happen on stage while keeping the platform intuitive and easy to use. We ensured that designers could connect their existing tools to our multiplayer system, eliminating the need to learn new programs or build content twice. This seamless integration allows their work to transfer effortlessly onto our platform and into technical rehearsals, ensuring efficiency and accuracy in live event planning.

PreVision has been utilized in various productions both within and beyond the school, consistently impressing teams with its remarkable accuracy. By providing a clearer understanding of the creative process, it empowers teams to explore and refine ideas early on, minimizing unexpected challenges and ensuring smoother executions.

“It was impressive to see how it is accurate and quick to apply. Very helpful to simulate before load in, even before making a content. Also, I’m glad today we found unexpected issues such as catching shadows from set pieces. It is good to see the previsualization with adjustable/live updated features.”

We believe what is unique about prevision is it’s made by designers for designers, we use this exact tools and continuously refining them and understand the creative needs.

I have experienced that myself while designing projection for the world premiere of Falcon Girls at the Yale Repertory Theater, it helped me better communicate with the director and the team

We are also exploring expansion into other forms of live entertainment that require even quicker preparation than theater, such as concerts, circus performances, and other fast-paced live events.
